Methoxy-poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(D,L-lysine hydrochloride) is a linear amphiphilic block copolymer which has a poly(D,L-lysine hydrochloride) section and a non-reactive PEG section. It is a crystalline solid soluble in water. Upon derivatization of the poly(D,L-lysine hydrochloride) part, it can self-assemble into particles in aqueous solution with a hydrophobic poly(D,L-lysine) core and a hydrophilic PEG shell.

Polysarcosine is a polypeptoid made of the endogenous sarcosine amino acid (N-methylated glycine). It has PEG-like physicochemical properties such as water solubility and no reported cytotoxicity and immunogenicity. Lately, it is considered as a potential alternative to PEG in many bioapplications.

This particular polysarcosine has a DBCO function on the C-terminal and a non-reactive acetyl function on the N-terminal.
